Actin organization and dynamics

Actin organization and dynamics
Actin monomers are very small proteins, and on their own they cannot accomplish much. However cells are able to assemble actin monomers and form filaments, leading to various different biological functions. There are many different proteins that regulate this process of actin polymerization. A technique called fluorescent speckle microscopy allows us to visualize how actin is incorporated into actin filaments in order to alter movement at the cell membrane.
